I was invited to come over to the Tate Switch Room and take some images of the new restaurant areas earlier this week. It was a long but enjoyable day. I had access to all of the new bars and eateries in the Tate and had a great time shooting in the new building.
It’s a very cavernous space, mostly created with polished concrete giving a brutalist look which seems to suit the environment.
The downstairs bar is a light and airy place serving great food and beer. Currently they have ales provided by the Wylam brewery in Newcastle. I was lucky enough to shoot the launch evening and spoke briefly to the brewers themselves, John Boyle & Robin Leighton who espoused the clean lines which ensured that the brew wasn’t sullied in any way.
The view from Level 7 of Tate Modern is hard to beat in London. get there early to have a window seat, enjoy the view over the Thames with a great coffee provided by the lovely staff.
The new members area in The Switch Room is lovely too, it’s light and airy and a wonderful place to work out of the way of interruptions, free wi-fi and power all for £70 / year. I really can’t think of a better place to work.
