This weekend Viveca and I took a long drive up to Sheffield – Steel City to check some amazing street art by Phlegm. We’d both seen his work online and were keen to see it for real. You don’t have to pay to go to go to a gallery like these, just a bit of research and help from friends. He’s a pretty prolific artist and his work is all slightly twisted with weird characters using mis-shapen horses, telescopes and other magical gizmo’s. I have no idea how old this fella is, but he’s sure got a real talent for the strange and obscure.

As Viveca says in her blog post – I also cannot give any professional critique so will just say that these are wonderful, slightly feline faces with elongated limbs, strange contraptions all with a dark side too. Maybe Phlegm is giving a little nod to Dr Seuss in his work.

This location holds three lovely works of art – they’re in a derelict and burnt out . . . well that would be telling wouldn’t it. I’ve been asked not to reveal the location, so don’t ask for it ‘cos I cant tell.
You guys have the best subjects in your area there! These shots are just awesome. I love that sublime, slightly dark style of art. Great captures here Mark, I love your blog post and Viveca’s today!
Cool shots of a cool piece, definitely one of his best. Can’t wait to see them in the flesh.
I love the artwork here. Just stunning work! Thank you for sharing it!
Excellent PP here Mark, the frame around the top photo fits it beautifully.
Tagging I hate, street graffiti I dislike, but something so beautiful in a place so abandoned ticks all of the boxes really. Out of harms way, and something exceptionally well done. Nice work.
