I’ve been a fan of Dolittle for YEARS, possibly the first time I saw Ange play was at Reading Festival somewhere around ’91 in his prior incarnation as EAT front man, my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think that they played twice that year, once on the main stane and as a stand in for another band in the No2 tent. EAT were another of the bands to ride in the coat-tails of The Wonder Stuff and the Stourbridge Grebo movement, had it not been for TWS there are a host of bands that I would never discovered – Jane’s Addiction / Neds / PWEI / Carter USM / CUD / Charlatans, I suppose these bands were what drove me to be a 90’s indie kid and formed a large part of who I am today, I owe a lot to this crowd.
EAT never made it to the REAL big time which they truly deserved, Ange the front man is one of the most engaging and exciting singers to watch, you can tell that the songs were written with a lot of feeling, he’s been through a lot, and come out the other side smiling.
Fast forward twenty years and the same bands are doing tours again, none with the same line-up (excepting Carter), but all still playing the same awesome tunes for the grown up kids wanting to relive their 20’s The fans are as hardcore as ever, slightly more portly, a little grey, but still still as enthusiastic and up for a great night.
Ange now plays as Dolittle (for that is his name), his two partners in crime G and Rich on bass and lead (Celine in the box on drums) and although generally they only play a Christmas gig annually we were treated to a mid year outing yesterday. Typically the banter was good, the band even pausing so that a member of the audience could go to the toilet, a cheer went up on her return.

The November gig last year was one of my highlights of the year, This is going to be hard to beat too, I really cant fault nights like these in any way, one of my favourite bands playing music from one of my favourite albums in a small venue, life doesn’t really get much better.
Thanks Ange / G / Rich for entertaining us – The Fortunate Few
